Lille head coach Rene Girard has reportedly chosen Vincent Enyeama over
Frenchman Steeve Elana as his number one goalkeeper next season,
according to L’Equipe.
In light of the situation, Nigeria’s
goalkeeping coach, Ike Shorunmu, has told supersport.com how Enyeama’s
development is testament to the nation’s dominance in Africa.
“Honestly
I’m happy for him and it shows that he is our best and one of the best
in Africa and the world at the moment. I am not surprised that he is now
number one at his club.
“You know every coach has different
philosophy or plan, so I believe his present coach feels Enyeama is good
enough to be number one and I am happy that has happened and it is an
advantage to us at the national team,” said Shorunmu.
The
30-year-old joined Lille in 2011, and since has played second choice to
Mickael Landreau before he went on loan to Maccabi Tel-Aviv last term.
This update has put an end to the speculations linking Enyeama with a move back to Israel.
